Postdoc position: Understanding probiotic carrier format in the prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Prof. M.L. Marco at the Department of Food Science & Technology, The University of California, Davis. The Marco laboratory investigates probiotic Lactobacillus and the interactions of these bacteria with other microbes and the intestinal epithelium. This position is focused on elucidating the underlying mechanisms by which probiotics reduce the incidence of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The postdoc will also contribute to other research on the anti-inflammatory properties of probiotics in the digestive tract. Qualified candidates should have a strong background in microbiology and molecular biology, preferably with expertise in the use of mouse models.
Postdoc position: Gut microbiome responses to dietary intervention. A postdoc position is available immediately in the laboratory of Prof. M.L. Marco at the Department of Food Science & Technology, The University of California, Davis. A broad objective of Prof. Marco’s research is to identify the attributes of microbes that can be used to guide improvements in food production to benefit human health. This position is focused on investigating the microbial ecology of the gut microbiome, with an emphasis on how different prebiotics and probiotics affect the structure and function of the gut microbiota to result in a reduced risk for obesity-related diseases. Qualified candidates should have a strong background in microbiology and molecular biology and experience in assessments of bacterial diversity using metagenomic methods.
For both positions: The successful candidates should have a PhD degree, show a demonstrated record in scientific publication, and be proficient in written and oral English. The positions are available immediately for one year with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance. To apply, send a cover letter citing the title of this announcement, CV, and contact information for 3 references to Prof. Marco.
